Course Information

All crew must understand Part 92 of the South African Civil Aviation Authority Dangerous Goods regulations because they may be responsible for the safe transport of these potentially hazardous materials by air or come into contact with hazardous materials. The comprehensive program is designed to equip aviation professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely handle and manage dangerous goods in compliance with international aviation standards.

Minimum Requirements
  • 18 years & older
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Class 3 Medical required for BLOS candidate, OR Class 5 "self-declaration" Medical
  • Proficiency in the English language, both spoken and written

Dangerous Goods Course

  • Identify items classified as dangerous goods and understand their potential hazards.
  • Gain an understanding of the origin and philosophy of current regulations governing the transport of dangerous goods by air.
  • Learn to identify the classes of dangerous goods and recognize associated hazard labels and packaging.
  • Be able to identify potential hidden hazards in baggage and cargo.
  • Understand the provisions for dangerous goods in the baggage of passengers and crew.
  • Familiarize with emergency response procedures related to dangerous goods incidents.

The course will be delivered through a combination of interactive lectures and theoretical and practical assessments as approved by the South African Civil Aviation Authority under Part 92 of the Civil Aviation regulations.  
Competency-Based Approach: The training focuses on the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform specific tasks safely and efficiently, ensuring learners meet the required competencies before being deemed competent to handle dangerous goods. 

Assessment of Competence: The training process includes assessments to evaluate the learner's understanding and ability to apply safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and emergency responses in the context of dangerous goods transport.
