Technical Writer - Uncrewed Aviation
Job Description
RocketDNA is at the forefront of innovation in unmanned aviation (drones), AI and automation. Our team is dedicated to advancing technology and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer with expertise in SORA (Specific Operations Risk Assessment) application and SAIL (Specific Assurance and Integrity Level) operations to join our team and contribute to our mission.
We are looking for a highly skilled Technical Writer to develop and maintain detailed and accurate documentation for our unmanned aerial systems and associated operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with SORA applications, JARUS (Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems) standards, and SAIL operations, and will be adept at translating complex technical and regulatory concepts into clear, comprehensive documents. Your work will support both internal teams and customers by ensuring they have the necessary information to operate, manage, and comply with our advanced drone and AI technologies.
Responsibilities & Duties
(Including but are not limited to the below)
- Documentation Creation: Develop and maintain a wide range of technical documentation, including operations manuals, risk assessment reports, compliance documents, and operational procedures (particularly BVLOS), specifically addressing SORA applications and SAIL operations.
- Regulatory Compliance:Ensure all documentation aligns with CASA regulations and standards, as well as standards for safety audits – in particular BARS (Basic Aviation Risk Standard). Stay current on regulatory changes and incorporate them into documentation.
- Collaboration: Work closely with RocketDNA’s Chief Pilot and other stakeholders to gather and analyse technical and regulatory information. Ensure documentation accurately reflects RocketDNA product features, compliance requirements, and operational procedures.
- Technical Writing: Simplify complex technical and regulatory information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content. Ensure documentation supports effective use, compliance, and risk management of UAS technologies.
- Content Management: Manage documentation projects from planning through to completion. This includes drafting, reviewing, revising, and finalizing content while adhering to company standards, style guides and document control.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Aviation, Engineering, or a related field an advantage.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience as a technical writer, with specific expertise in SORA, JARUS, and SAIL operations. Experience in the unmanned aviation or aerospace industry is highly preferred – BVLOS operational experience is a significant advantage.
Experience
- Experience with API documentation and software documentation.
- Knowledge of additional unmanned aviation regulations and industry best practices.
- Experience in BVLOS operations
Job Knowledge & Skills
- Certification or advanced training in CASA SORA applications and SAIL operations.
- Technical Skills: Deep understanding of unmanned aerial systems, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory compliance related to SORA, JARUS, and SAIL operations.
- Writing Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading abilities, with a proven ability to present complex information in a clear, concise, and user-friendly manner.
- Tools: High proficiency in documentation tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Technical Communication Suite, or similar platforms.
